Causes: Education, Vocational & Technical Schools
Mission: To maintain the health and cleanliness of the schroon lake and river for recreational purposes and to education the surrounding public about individual programs that support this cause.
Programs: Water tested schroon lake 6 times to contribute to the adirondack lake assessment program. Provided educational programs to the public through public events, floating classrooms, electronic newsletters, and an active website. Monitored state boat launch from may to october to prevent the spread of invasive species into schroon lake and to other lakes in the area. Educated the public on marine invasive species and managed a scouting program to discover areas of milfoil for removal. Provided programs for local schools to educate children of all ages about the value of a clean lake.
from may 15, 2017 to october 10, 2017, the east shore schroon lake association managed a watercraft inspection station at a state owned boat launch with the job of inspecting all watercraft entering and exiting the south end of schroon lake for invasive species such as eurasian milfoil, curly leaf pond weed, zebra mussels, water chestnut, and asian clams. With the exception of the lake george association, our station had the largest number of inspections and invasive finds of any watercraft inspection station in the adirondack park as verified by the adirondack watershed institute at paul smiths college.
a major component of the organization is education provided to property owners and visitors to the greater schroon lake area. Education comprises an annual newsletter (voted best newsletter by the new york federation of lake associations), email blasts to members (minipearls), information booths at trade shows and local events, and volunteer and member attendance at conferences to provide information on current issues and to develop skills to preserve schroon lake as a recreational resource.
provided funding, along with schroon lake association and the paradox lake association to have the town of schroon purchase a watercraft wash station for use at the north end of schroon lake and for paradox lake to wash boats with 150 degree water to kill and cleanse off invasive species prior to launching watercraft into the local lakes
