Causes: Child Day Care, Children & Youth
Mission: East End House community center uses a holistic approach to promote the well-being, academic achievement, and successful transition to adulthood of children and youth from under-resourced families in Cambridge and surrounding communities. As part of the approach, East End House provides support services to a diverse population, from infants to seniors, to strengthen family and community.
Results: Nearly 3,400 people benefit from East End House programs each year, including nationally accredited child care and afterschool programs, parent education courses, an emergency food program and senior services. The organization also organizes more than 4,000 hours of volunteer time.
Target demographics: East End House serves nearly 3,400 residents of Cambridge and the surrounding communities each year. We target lower-income families, children, individuals in transition, and seniors. Some demographics include: • Over 80% of East End House’s clients are low-to-mid income. • 62% of participants reside in Cambridge. • 44% were born in a country other than the United States. • 57% of consumers speak English as their primary language, 19% Haitian Creole, 9% Spanish, 5% Portuguese and 10% another language. • 35% of users identify as African-American, 30% as Caucasian, 21% as Hispanic or Latino, 5% as Asian and 9% as bi-racial or other.

Programs: Programming includes a Child Care Program, serving children up to 5 years of age; a School Age Program for children in kindergarten to 5th grade that operates after school and full days during vacations and summer months; a Middle School Program that is free of charge to all participants; and wrap-around services for families including a Food Pantry, resource and referrals, and a parent education series.
