Earthroots Field School Inc

Programs: Eco-literacy empowers students, faculty and adminstrators to transform their campus into a model of sustainability through organic gardening, native habitat restoration, rainwater harvesting, composting and recycling. The program served 265 elementary and middle school students in 2 local schools. Each student participated in 8 hours of program time.

forest kindergarten is an all outdoor program that meets fall, winter and spring for children ages 3 - 6 and their parents/caregivers. Participants develop physical strength, listening skills, comfort in nature, school readiness, eco-literacy, intelligence, wilderness awareness, group learning skills and sustainable living strategies to develop enriching connections with themselves, each other and the earth. The program served 150 young children and adults. Each participant averaged 100 hours of program time.

habitat restoration at big oak canyon involves people of all ages in hands-on experiences creating native habitat and healthy watersheds in the local santa ana mountains. Our 39 acre property, big oak canyon, serves as a living laboratory in ecological design as we rehabilitate the headwaters of a year round spring and seasonal creek. The program served 256 people including chilren, corporate groups, university students and high schools. Each participant averaged 3 hours of program time.

other programs include family campouts, primitive skills field days, homeshool field days, festival fundraiser, surf and nature skills camp, wild heritage camp, outreach events, family backpack training and eco-literacy internship for soka university students. Together, these programs served 460 people. Each participant averaged 15 hours of program time.
