Mission: Earthenable's mission is to improve health of low-income families in rwanda by removing a key driver of poor sanitation in the home: durt floors. Dirt floors cause malnutrition, diarrhea, respiratory disease, and vector-borne disease, but concrete is unaffordable. Earthenable's floors are 75% cheaper than concrete, and composed of natural materials with 90% less embedded energy than concrete (clay, sand, natural fibers, and a sealing oil that turns into a hard plastic resin when it dries).
Programs: Installing healthy and affordable earthen floors, composed of natural eathen materials and a varnish manufactured by earthenable. We successfully launched our product after significant pilots and test floors, set up a manufacturing facility for our varnish, and started to build our sales team. We installed over 5,000 square feet of healthy flooring for people living on dirt floors in rwanda, and positioned ourselves to scale by hiring a team of managers and a core team of masons. These floors reduce diseases such as diarrhea, respiratory disease, and vector-borne diseases, while containing 90% less embedded energy than concrete floors.
