Life saving company. So many of us are alone or in no condition to drive to medical appts. I've used their sevices several times. The drivers are volunteers who are kind. They'll even sit with you at your appt if you request that's what you want when booking. Ingenious idea, fills an important need for free....simply the best!!

I can't rave enough about drivers for survivors! Living and being alone and having had cancer, and surgeries and scans, appts that you have forever, this service is so appreciated! They have THE kindest drivers, many who had cancer before. And they will sit with you if you like. This resource is one that no one really thinks about like other volunteer services which are clear to see the value. It is a life saver, literally, for those of us who are alone battling this wicked disease.
My experience with Driver's for Survivors has been far more than I could have ever anticipated. Not only have they been very accommodating and on always on time when transportation is necessary to and from my medical appointments, but also if a driver has the extra time, to pick up prescriptions, even groceries with you - the drivers are kind, caring and also have uplifting experiences to share.
Since, many times, I have be far to unwell to drive myself, this free service has made life livable through the tough times. I would recommend this service highly.
I became a volunteer driver in 2017. My parents both died of cancer on 2016 back in the Netherlands where they lived. I did not get the chance to drive them to their appointments often because I was far away hence my brother there did all the driving for them. Being able to give back to my own community here feels amazing and it helped me also a lot with my own grieving process. I feel I give back in honor of my parents to the people here in Fremont and that feels amazing. I became a board member for DFS this year as well and I took on the role as DFS educator for our volunteers!
This organization is amazing! Brings a smile on my face all the time!
I am a current cancer patient at Stanford Health Care and live in Fremont. I live alone and one of my friends at church told me about Drivers For Survivors when she leaned that I would be needing 7 weeks of treatment (chemo and radiation) every day Monday through Friday for this entire time. My family members do not live in the area and are unable to help me with transportation to and from my home to the Stanford clinic. This is my second week of treatment and I have had the good fortune of having Drivers from this organization three times last week and four times this week. It is a pleasure working with their Program Coordinator who does her level best to find drivers on a weekly basis. I don't know what I would have done without this invaluable help. Not only is this service free but the drivers are all very kind, caring volunteers. I can't say enough good things about them. This non-profit is certainly deserving of all the financial help they can get.
This great organization is providing a unique support network for cancer patients who may not have other options for transportation. As a cancer survivor myself I know just how important that can be, so I've recently joined Drivers for Survivors as a volunteer driver companion. This is a vital service that means a great deal to those in need, and a compassionate organization full of thoughtful and giving people.
Drivers For Survivors Inc. is a splendid nonprofit organization. As a volunteer driver, everything from the actual people at the organization to the clients is wonderful. I love feeling part of something bigger, something that makes a difference in the community. If anyone is looking to volunteer in a flexible organization, an organization that was built with love, kindness, the greater good, and compassion, Drivers for Survivors is for you.
Amazing organization that provides free transportation to ambulatory cancer patients! I personally volunteer as a driver and it's a great feeling when you can help someone in need.
The patients are so thankful, it's an automatic gratification to see how appreciative they are.

Drivers for Survivors is a great nonprofit organization. I personally volunteer for this amazing organization that provides free transportation to those battling cancer. Services are also offered when there is a suspicion of cancer.
In the short period they have been around they have provided over 6000 free rides.
It's a great feeling to know that patients don't need to worry about how they are going to get to their appointments. The patients main focus is to get better. I love to see those grateful smiles from the patients we drive they are so touched by the volunteers kindness.
It's wonderful to know there are still people out there who care about others and are making a difference in someone's life.
Please check out Drivers for Survivors and support this amazing cause!
DFS is an amazing organization that fills an important practical need in our community. The best part about them though is the compassion that they incorporate into this "service". These two elements create a wonderful program for people going through a very difficult time.
I have been a volunteer Companion-Driver for DFS since December 2018. It has been a wonderful experience. Obviously, the clients are just so inspiring; and always so grateful, it's almost embarrassing; all I'm doing is giving them a ride! On the administrative side, though, the employees are THE BEST. There is no lack of support and positive encouragement. And the clients love them! They often mention them to me by name during our ride and cannot say enough good things about them. An absolutely dedicated and amazing organizations.
I am a retiree and I have volunteered with Drivers For Survivors for 7 months now. We provide FREE transportation to cancer patients to their Doctor visits, Radiation and Chemotherapy treatments. But the best part is that we also go the extra mile to provide companionship and friendship to our riders. Whenever possible, I try to take my clients to as many of their appointments as possible so they get consistent care and we get to know each other. Whenever possible, I will sit with them through their chemotherapy appointments and talk with them to make the time go faster and keep their minds on other things. I enjoy taking extra time for lunch and light shopping with my clients when possible as well. I feel privileged to volunteer with Drivers for Survivors because there is so much need for this service and everyone is always so appreciative of what we do. Many people either just have no one else to take them or cannot afford other types of transportation. Family members and friends aren't always available. In addition, it is the most flexible volunteer experience I have found as I make my own schedule. This is also a wonderful organization to work with. It is like a family - everyone works so well together and pitches in when needed. And they let us know how much we are appreciated as well.
I volunteer for a number of agencies but Drivers for Survivors will always have a special place in my heart because I believe so passionately in its mission and was there at the beginning. The company has grown under the wonderful leadership of Sherry Higgs who instills passion and energy into her vision enabling Driver for Survivors to grow into the amazing community program it is today. The clients I serve are so appreciative of the ride and companionship they receive - it really warms my heart. A ride seems like such a small thing - but to our clients it is a huge weight off their shoulders not to have to worry about how they will get to an appointment. I have made wonderful connections while volunteering - it is such a worthwhile company!
Drivers for Survivors is a program that gives cancer patients (currently in treatment) companionship and rides to their appointments. When you are diagnosed and have cancer, it can be a challenging time with a lot of uncertainty and a lot of wait and see. Driving patients to their appointments gives them one less thing to worry about, so that they can focus on treatment and feeling better. It is very rewarding to drive, as you make friends with the best of people and at the same time, you are contributing to a great cause!
I was first introduced to Drivers For Survivors 2 years ago when I began driving for them. Being 32 years old at the time, and having a tumor removed along w my right lung when I was 16 with working parents who had struggles getting me to all my treatments while they were working, I was acutely aware of what a difference this could make to a family having to help a loved one during this time. I first started driving to help others in need, but once I actually started driving I realized how much value I got out of it as well. The relationships I've made, the love I've felt from families I've helped, and experiencing the love that they have for each other has been indispensable in my life and has given me perspective on how blessed we all truly can be in life if we choose. Drivers for survivors has been instrumental in my personal growth and I feel empowered to be a part of such a great organization.
We are really satisfied, we are glad that we are able to know about this service. The dependability is outstanding, the volunteers are always here on time, and the scheduling process has been excellent. We just want to support Drivers For Survivors in any way we can.
DFS is a unique, compassion driven organization. By providing drivers for those who cannot get to appointments it serves an important bridge between the diagnosis and the treatment. This bridge links patients with drivers who provide the much needed compassion at a critical time in their life. Driven by an individual who saw the need through her own treatment, it has grown over the last 5 years by providing over 12,000 compassion driven rides. It is a privilege to provide guidance for the organization and a method to give back to such a worthy cause
Words could not even explain what the importance and need this organization means to the Area. The last thing you want to feel is to be a burden, or to feel that you are making others feel put upon. You need to focus on your own needs. Drivers for Survivors eliminates the worry of getting to your appointments, gives you a friend to confide in, makes you feel as though you are special and that someone is taking their own time and energy to help you. Sherry Higgs saw that this need was not being filled, and she went with it, and she was right, not only did numbers of rides soar incredibly over a few year period, but the organization even grew to a second office, and it is going to keep growing, this is a need that was not being filled, and now others catching on and it is contagious. See, there is Good in the World, and here Drivers for Survivors is Changing Lives One Person at a Time.

I met Sherry Higgs, Drivers for Survivors founder, just as Drivers for Survivors was more than an idea and inspiration. Sherry made DFS a reality for so many people who needed a lift to treatment but also a lift of spririt through the companionship that is part of the full package experience. Sherry is a hard driving, ethical, authentic business woman with a passion for her mission. Drivers for Survivors is a dream come true for both clients and drivers. Well done, DFS, well done, Sherry Higgs!
Giving rides and companionship to others that need help at their vulnerable time is the most valuable gesture I have ever experienced. Drivers For Survivors has been a wonderful organization to volunteer for. The service provided is impacting the lives of cancer patients in a compassionate and supportive way.
It's a great opportunity to help out in the community! It has been a great experience driving with Drivers For Survivors.
I've been with Drivers for Survivors from very early on. I am honored to work with an organization that serves a very important role in our communities. By providing transportation and companionship to local cancer patients to/from their life-saving medical treatments I know our volunteer drivers are making a huge difference. It's been a great honor and privilege to be working with DFS to make those rides a reality. But our work has just begun and DFS will continue to grow and expand in order to help as many cancer patients possible.
Over the past five years I have seen Drivers For Survivors provide life changing transportation and companionship services to hundreds of people in need. The dedication of Sherry and her team to assisting those in need is amazing. Drivers For Survivors is truly a blessing to the community
I gave my time and life for social security, vets and unemployment benefits plus the urbur and lift contact for ruals areas and the old. It is now my turn
I have found the Drivers for Survivors team to be phenomenal! Both the office staff and drivers are so personable, kind, thoughtful, and generous with their time. Without having a car to go to all of my doctor visits and tests, it would be extremely costly for me to go to my appointments. Drivers for Survivors has been such an amazing help in ensuring I get to every appointment and on time. The staff is always making sure my needs are taken care of and are extremely supportive. The drivers are always willing to be there for you and make the time to not only get you to your appointment, but to wait for you, sometimes up to an hour or more. They are so supportive and flexible. I have had only good experiences with this organization and thank God that they exist. To me, they are real life angels.
After hearing about Drivers for Survivors from Sherry, i knew it was a organization that i wanted to be a part of. Being diagnosed with cancer is scary enough, and having to worry about transportation is an unneeded stress. This organization impacts lives, families and the entire community. It does so with compassion and heart. I am honored to be a part of it.
I have been Volunteering for Drivers for Survivors for a few weeks now and take great honor in being able to support the community and organization. It feels great to a part of a team that is so passionate, caring and hardworking. The organization is really doing something special for a community in need.
I've been with Drivers for Survivors from the start. I am honored to be working with such a compassionate organization that provides transport and companionship of local cancer patients to/from their life-saving medical treatments. When Sherry told me her experience of hearing that fellow patients were missing treatments simply because they didn't have a ride, I knew I needed to be a part of this group. It's been a great experience working with this DFS to make those rides a reality.
I have been a Board Member since the begining of Drivers for Servivors. When I sat down with Sherry Higgs the Founder and learned what she wanted to do I caught her passion for tthe cause. I love how we match the drivers up with the clients needing rides. It is amaizing to me how it all comes together so perfectly. Sherry, her staff and her volunteers are very dedicated and hard working people. I have been on boards of other organizations but I have never see so much work been produced by so few people. They are fantastic.
I feel so lucky that my daughter found Drivers for Survivors for me. I was recently diagnosed with cancer and I am very impressed by the way I was helped by this organization. Both the program coordinator and driver are so friendly and helpful. They have taken me to my appointments at Stanford Medical center and without their help, it would be a lot of trouble for someone like myself -- a senior citizen who does not drive. They are very friendly and make my every visit an enjoyable experience. Everyone in this organization have gone above and beyond to help me. In particular, on a holiday when drivers are not available, the program coordinator drove me herself! I can not express how gratitude I was for what she has done. This organization was started with a wonderful goal and it is definitely a great resource for cancer survivors like myself.
I haven't started providing rides yet but I'm very excited to be able to help take survivors to their appointments!! You see I'm a survivor myself and I know what the people are going through. I was very fortunate I had my daughter to help me with EVERYTHING! I know how devastating it is to get that call from your doctor, go through the surgery and get treatment, let alone have to figure out how I was going to get to and from my appointments. Drivers For Survivors is an awesome origination to help out the less fortunate. I'm very grateful to have time between jobs to be able to help out in any way that I can.
It was with pride that I asked junior high student to snap my picture in front of the Drivers for Survivors magnet on my van door. I was three minutes out from my first pickup. I officially became a driver and companion to a cancer patient. She was waiting outside when I drove up. I let her know that she was my first assignment and I was excited. Told her I'd only been driving for 2 weeks and she howled with laughter. We shared good conversation and it was a pleasure to be of service.
I feel wonderful and very fulfilled giving my time to such an important organization. After witnessing my late grandmother's fight with cancer, I understand the need for cancer patients to have a ride and support to and from their doctor appointments. Sherry's (founder or DFS) devotion to this cause is unlike anything I have seen and it is a pleasure working with her and Jahzielle, the program coordinator.
Drivers for Survivors is a great organization! It feels wonderful to be able to help out those going through such a difficult time. Transportation should be the least of their worries, their main focus needs to be on getting well and healthy again. I feel great knowing that I have taken one less worry away from a patient. Their gratitude is the best repayment!
Drivers For Survivors (DFS) has an inspiring mission that helps cancer patients during their treatment by giving them free transportation. Being a volunteer in this organization has helped me to make a different in someone's life , which feels great. I also had the opportunity learning about non profit organization . I am proud that I am part of (DFS) that support the community in Fremont, Newark, and Union City.
