Before i read about drishtee, i didn't really think i was going to spend my time exploring the rural north, chatting in hindi with village folk and collecting and analyzing data for a survey. Not that i didn't consider the idea enticing but i never thought the opportunity would come knocking.
Recently having been certified a culture studies graduate and having lived in south indian cities all my life, i guess i knew my chances of interning with an organization focusing on rural development and preferring an mba pedagogy were slim. It reflects the openness and flexibility of Drishtee and its team then, that i got in!
I don't know how much Drishtee got out of the months i spent going about my assignment but i certainly got my time's worth. my higher ups were very easy to work with and i got the guidance i wanted at critical points. just being allowed out onto the field and advised to find my own footing was reassuring. those are the two things i always want- space, but also structure and deadlines...
I was involved with Drishtee on a month-long project as an intern on a rural BPO project that was set up to staff a professional call center as well as provide Web transcription services. I was surprised at the level of enthusiasm demonstrated by the staff who were getting trained. They were eager to ramp up and start handling real calls. The challenge was to set up an organized way of handling incoming and outgoing survey type calls and divide the work for maximum productivity. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and would recommend it (or similar experience at another organization in the rural development space) for those looking to improve opportunities for the less privileged in emerging economies.
I was lucky enough to intern with Drishtee. During the time I got to know what all Drishtee does and how dedicated their team is. It's really great to see an organization that is serious about rural India and committed to its cause. They have let their work speak for them and that's awesome!
I was associated with Drishtee as a summer intern in 2010. I was involved working with the software development team, aimed specifically on developing a Mobile - Point of Sale application, to be used by Drishtee in carrying out its sale in the rural India. I am glad to have been associated with the wonderful team of exceptionally talented and highly motivated individuals. The work environment here encourages freedom of thoughts and discussions, which can be a great learning experience for an intern. I strongly recommend Drishtee to the people who are ready to learn and are highly motivated to serve the rural India.
