Causes: Centers to Support the Independence of Specific Populations, Human Services
Mission: The mission of dress for success houston is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
Programs: Dress for success houston (dfsh) serves over 2,770 women annually. All clients receive a suit for their interview and a second suit when they become employed. Clients who gain employment are invited to join the professional women's group (pwg) because "simply getting a job is one thing keeping the job is another. Women making the move toward a career face a myriad of challenges, from understanding corporate culture to handling personal finances, often without support. " the professional women's group (pwg) addresses these issues at each stage of development. There are currently "three groups" new, charter and alumni. The pwg members meet at dfsh as many as six times a month to learn from expert speakers as they continue their journey to self-sufficiency. Courses include financial literacy classes, a mentoring program, scholarship program and a book club. The pwg is an invitation-only networking association created to encourage career development. Membership is open only to dress for success clients who become employed. In 2013, dress for success houston launched a pilot interview preparation program, first impressions. Once outfitted with a new suit and professional accessories, women work with a trained volunteer in first impressions. This program provides guidance and important information to help clients build skills and participate in mock interviews.
