Are high school kids from different schools and from all socio-economic walks of life and of all shapes, sizes and abilities capable of joining a team and completing a marathon? Many might believe the answer to be no, but at Dreamfar the answer is a resounding yes. Serving as a Dreamfar volunteer for the last two seasons, I can say first hand that not only can it be done, but it has been done at Dreamfar with great success. No student who wants to participate is left behind. The motto is: 26.2 miles, together!! A sense of community is created for all students to set goals and make the necessary commitment to succeed not only for a marathon, but for life itself. This is done through a comprehensive support network of dedicated staff, parents and volunteers to challenge and nurture each and every student athlete. After a grueling training season that takes the students right through the winter months, it all culminates when they run in the Cox Providence Marathon in May. It is truly as gratifying for the volunteers as it is for the students to see the improvement throughout the training season and then to see them all cross that finish line in May.
