Mission: The mission of drawn from valor is to educate through entertainment. We are a non-profit animation studio which creates works designed to educate and empower young people and families impacted by physical and/or mental health issues. We seek to enable children and adults alike to discover important healthcare knowledge in an engaging environment at their own pace. Our goal is to increase knowledge in order to improve health care outcomes, such as quality and length of life.
Programs: Post traumatic stress disorder: our ptsd education project, the tales of the golden acorn, is a series of free animated short films being created to help educate and empower young people who are directly or indirectly impacted by trauma. The tales are a collection of stories about loss, struggle, and hope, and the challenges we contend with in the wake of trauma. The series focuses on the effects, issues, and strategies for dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder (ptsd) in a family setting. In fiscal year 2016 we created overarching story-lines for the project, engaged with subject matter experts (smes) in the fields of psychology and trauma counseling to inform script development, conducted research, began fleshing out characters and scripts, and developed other creative content to support our public engagement and outreach efforts.
diabetes program: this project is designed to help families with children recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (t1d). The goal of the project is to empower children and their families by demystifying the disease, increasing timeliness of care in remote locations, and increasing retention of important facts and recommended practices for the purpose of improved self-management and health outcomes. The information will be conveyed via animations and an illustrated, interactive ebook. During fiscal year 2016, we worked with our client-partner to create story-lines for a series of animations, nearly completed the animation for the first episode in that series, developed an online crowdfunding page to provide financial support for the project, began casting roles for voice actors/actresses, and also created a collection of illustrations for the interactive ebook.
