Causes: Economic Development, Urban & Community Economic Development
Mission: To promote, preserve and extend the safety, image and economic development of downtown state college, pennsylvania. To provide a safe, clean environment so as to enhance the image of the downtown and attract business, cultural, recreational and other activities consistent with fostering and maintaining a vibrant and prosperous area for residents and visitors.
Programs: To promote, preserve and extend the safety, image and economic development of downtown state college, pa through various marketing activities. These include gift card sales, and the distribution of 85,000 maps and guides. The district sponsored events such as the chili cook-off, america's day for kids, and restaurant week. Extensive regional marketing and advertising campaigns with billboards and newsprint were conducted. Holiday ornaments and skylines were used to decorate the streetscape.
the downtown safety enhancement program utilizes penn state auxiliary officers under the supervision of the state college police department to patrol for potential problems. The cleaning ambassadors provide daily cleaning efforts and the removal of graffiti in high traffic, high visibility areas, for the convenience and comfort of shoppers and visitors.
the district works to promote retail, restaurant, rental and other business activity in the downtown. Also, it administers a state program to assist property owners with the cost of new signs and/or facades.
