Mission: To facilitate and encourage community and cultural enrichment, by promoting, preserving, and improving the historic downtown of driggs as the heart of teton valley.
Programs: Driggs digs plein air: ddca hosted the 6th annual driggs digs plein air festival in the third week of july. 75 plein air artists from 17 states participated. Over 300 paintings, mostly of the local area, are offered for sale in the week-long exhibition and sale. It is estimated that more than 2,000 people visited the gallery and attended the plein air activities. This popular community event is designed to attract people to driggs, in the heart of teton valley on the west side of the tetons. Educational workshops and demos are provided to artists, along with a variety of opportunities to show and to sell their work. Activities over the course of 8 days include an opening reception, 3 paint outs, 2 quick draws and sales, professional artist demonstrations, competition award ceremony, and closing reception. Many of these activities take place during other popular local cultural events such as symphony on sunday, shakespeare in the parks and music on main.
driggs snowscapes: in january ddca hosted the 5th annual driggs 'snowscapes - the art of sculpting snow. ' a well attended free event with 4,000 visitors, snowscapes engages the community in a unique public art form that celebrates snow. The event is designed to attract people to driggs during a non-peak season week. Ten teams compete in the free five day public event. Community members with skills in concrete form building and excavation volunteer hours of skilled labor to build forms and move tons of snow to create 8x8x8 snow blocks several days prior to the competition. Community friendly and well organized, snowscapes has attracted artists from idaho, wyoming, utah, new york, oregon and colorado. Two local high school teams and visiting school kids receive hands on education and mentoring from the professional artists. Snowscapes is funded entirely by business sponsors, private donations and grants. The event is supported by a large number of dedicated volunteers, local businesses and local public works teams.
driggs snow ball: in january ddca hosted the 5th annual snow ball. Immediately following the driggs snowscapes snow sculpting awards ceremony, the snow ball is a local 'dress up' party that brings together residents and visitors for an evening of snow themed decor, live music, dancing, games and refreshments in the local senior center in driggs city center. The snow ball is designed to be an affordable and fun, family-friendly winter event in downtown driggs. Each year 200-300 people attend this very popular evening out.
