Nonprofit Overview
Mission: The Down Syndrome Association of Greater Richmond is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that benefits the lives of individuals with Down syndrome and their families through individual and family support, education, community awareness and advocacy.
Target demographics: Individuals with Down syndrome become independent and valued members of their communities
Direct beneficiaries per year: over 500 families
Geographic areas served: Central Virginia, Williamsburg, Charlottesville, Central Shenandoah Valley and the surrounding areas
Programs: Current programs and events: DSAGR offers overs 130 different opportunities yearly that assist individuals and families affected by Down syndrome in reaching their full potential. Featured programs and events include, but are not limited to all of the following: • Education Initiatives o Education meetings and seminars o Disability Education and Transition Conference o Learning Program (Early Literacy) for children ages 5 – 9 o Transition Boot Camp for High School students o Summer Employment Academy (New for 2017) o Adult Employment Skills Development Series o Pre-School Education Series o DS 101 Webinar for Educators • Social Programs and Events o Hands Up Playgroup for young children under 5 o Adventurers group for ages 6-12 o FunQuest for teens o Fun4Life for those over 21 o Grandparent to Grandparent o Pizza and Dance Party o Holiday Party o U of R Basketball game o Dads Appreciating Down Syndrome (D.A.D.S.)
