Dominican does incredible work. The entire staff is warm, inviting, and will go out of their way to support and otherwise assist you. They offer a comprehensive training program and additional support, so you never feel in the dark, and it is a pleasure to do something so important for the City of Detroit.

Nonprofit Overview
Mission: Respectful of the dignity of each person, Dominican Literacy Center (DLC) offers the students educational opportunities which prepare them to successfully live out their role as parent, worker and/or citizen. In the safe, non-judgmental atmosphere of the Dominican Literacy Center adults are able to find acceptance and a commitment to help them learn.
Target demographics: Adult Basic Education (ABE) and Adult Literacy learners. DLC serves those those most in need that have few or no choices when it comes to continuing their education.
Direct beneficiaries per year: DLC registered 463 adults during the 2013-2014 fiscal year. The Adult Basic Education student population was at 83.4%, 16.4% are learning English as another language (ESOL), and .2% are in GED.
Geographic areas served: The urban area of Detroit's east-side neighborhoods surrounding Harper/Conner/Gartiot on the East, I-94 on the North, Jefferson on the South, and Van Dyke on the West.
Programs: One-to-one tutoring services in reading, math, basic computer, ESL classes, and GED preparation.
