Mission: The domestic violence action center is committed to ending domestic violence and other forms of abuse through leadership, prevention, legal services, individual and systematic advocacy, and social change work. We believe all persons should be created with equality, dignity, and fairness. With high quality and culturally sensitive programs, delivered with integrity and compassion, we are creating safety and self-sufficiency for survivors and their children.
Programs: Provided legal services to victims of domestic violence in the areas of child custody, divorce, property division, and temporary restraining orders. Provided community outreach, education, and information regarding legal rights in domestic violence situations. Approximately 441 victims were provided with legal services and 2,560 benefited from case management and outreach services.
provided youth information that enables them to make healthier dating choices through prevention, education workshops, and teen advocacy intervention. The teen alert program provided outreach statewide to 4,498 students, educations, and service providers.
the pulama i ka ohana (piko) program provides services for survivors with children (witnesses and/or also victims of abuse). Piko offers domestic violence education, risk assessment and safety planning, client advocacy, crisis support, accompaniment to court, as well as support groups, therapy for survivors and youth, as well as play therapy for young children. Since piko services began in october 2016, the program served 86 families. Through dvacs safe on scene (sos) program, an advocate meets police and the survivor on the scene of a domestic violence incident. The advocate helps the survivor deal with complex emotional, logistical, psychological and physical trauma at the time of an incident. Sos also assists survivors whose cases are handled by the criminal investigation division of the honolulu police. Advocates assisted 229 survivors on site to date.
