Mission: The division for early childhood (referred to as dec) promotes policies and advances evidence-based practices that support families and enhance the optimal development of young children (ages 0-8) who have or are at risk for developmental delays and disabilities. Dec is an international membership organization for those who work with or on behalf of young children (ages 0-8) with disabilities and other special needs and their families.
Programs: An annual conference is held focusing on advancement of, and current issues of concern to, individuals who work with or on behalf of intants and young children who have special needs and their families in which 950 people attended.
dec publishes the following journals:. 1) the journal of early intervention (jei) is a peer-reviewed publication produced by dec quarterly. It is the leading early childhood research journal focused on issues related to young children with special needs. It is a must-have for researchers, practitioners, higher-ed faculty and students. . 2) young exceptional children is a peer-reviewed publication produced quarterly by the dec. It is a practical resource designed for teachers, administrators, therapists, family members and others who work with young children with special needs. . These publications are received by approximately 3,000 people.
outreach services to 3,000 members, associates, students, sponsored state subdivision members, and under represented groups regrading the promotion of quality services for young childen and their families.
