Results: The Philippines The devastation wrought by Typhoon Haiyan-Yolanda has had a profound impact on millions of people caught in its path. In response,the DRI Foundation called on the business continuity community, who offered generous donations to the Foundation’s Haiyan-Yolanda Relief Fund. Every penny supported relief and recovery efforts, particularly basic essential needs. “As a body of professionals whose work centers on incidents and disasters, we embrace our responsibility to be supportive and ready to lend a hand,” said Foundation Chair AnneMarie Staley. Illinois In the wake of devastating tornadoes, farmers in Washington, IL, had tough work ahead of them, not only rebuilding homes and barns, but rebuilding their businesses. 14 DRI volunteers, led by Board Director Pete Renneker, pitched in to help, clearing debris from the lands so the farmers would be able to plow farm in the spring. “The day was cold and raking debris all day is not easy work,” Renneker said. “But in the end, we got a great start on cleaning up the finer debris that the big farm equipment is not able to move.” Relief for Hurricane Sandy Victims: Blanket Program in conjunction with Delta Airlines Operation Sandbag Staten Island Mahila Project Supporting research and advocacy sustainable community development before and after disasters as well as providing resources to women and their families in disaster. Direct beneficiaries per year: We partnered with a local food bank and sorted 20,863 pounds of food products—the equivalent of 17, 295 meals—that were distributed throughout the Atlanta area to those in need. We also teamed up with an inner city organic vegetable garden where volunteers cleared debris, cultivated, and pulled weeds. Our other major effort included collaborating with a local charity to rehabilitate two homes in an underserved community.
