Diaspora Burji Community Organization, DBA, "Grow East Africa" is a 501 C3 charity (EIN 47-3363829) working in the Burji District of Southern Ethiopia. We work with rural poor families where we distribute small animals, help internally displaced women farm nutritious vegetables for food, and sell the excess in the market, we help rural villagers with access to clean drinking water, and introduce students to modern learning tools such as computers, libraries, and science labs. Since 2016, we have distributed 3 goats per family to over 100 families improving the livelihoods of over 600 people. We organized a group of internally displaced women into a cooperative to farm vegetables and quinoa on 11 acres of land equipped with a solar-powered drip irrigation system. We have delivered borehole water over 2 Kilometers up a steep hill using a solar pump to the village center. This enabled girls to focus on school activities instead of hours spent fetching drinking water. In 2020, at HareWengi high school, we installed a new computer lab equipped with 75 desktops, new tables, and chairs. We are grateful to our partners and supporters for enabling us to improve the lives of our clients. We are a very small organization with a minimum budget, however, every cent we spend is bearing fruit for those who are in need.
