Mission: The mission of derrick brooks charities, inc. Is to
Programs: Derrick brooks charities youth programs (dbcyp) served over 2,900 youths, parents and community residents. There are 2 programs: the youth crime prevention and intervention program, and the black on black crime prevention program that delivered services to clients in nine school-based sites, including high schools at brooks-debartolo, wharton, blake, and middleton; middle schools at memorial, adams, and van buren; and edison elementary school. Services where also delivered to two neighborhood service centers, the wilbur davis boys and girls club, and the juvenile diversion/teen court program. Darrell daniels is paid by derrick brooks charities to directly carry out the programs activities. The program met and exceeded goals to assist youth in developing positive self-esteem, resist negative peer pressure and gang involvement, and to take responsibility for their educational and vocational goals. -the black on black crime prevention program was designed to draw attention to the problem of crime in the black community and the need for law enforcement and the community to work together. Youth club meetings, law enforcement events, and church-community activities are held weekly to help reduce crime in the targeted communities. -the youth crime prevention and intervention program was designed to assist youth in avoiding the juvenile justice system. Dropout prevention sessions, parenting classes, tutoring and employability skills trainging meetings are held weekly. Thirty (30)classes for the juvenile arbitration/teen court were held in public schools and recreation centers for first-time offenders referred by the juvenile justice system for first-time juvenile offenders. Dbcyp also offers teen summits every 3rd saturday of each month at 9 a. M. At the lee davis neighborhood service center, located at 3402 north 22nd street. Youth anger management and behavior modification training sessions for youth and parents are conducted every monday at 5:30 p. M. At the same location. Tutoring for middle school youth is offered after school, monday through thursday at the wilbur davis boys and girls club, located at 3515 north sarah street, as well as adams and eisenhower middle schools. All services are free of charge.
scholarship grants - various individual recipients were selected to directly receive scholarships from derrick brooks charities. Recipients must have participated in the brooks bunch or first & goal program, maintained a 2. 5 gpa or higher, be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours per semester, and maintain 20 hours of community service per calendar year. An essay is also required each semester discussing how the semester went. See schedule i for more information.
