Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Mental Health, Substance Abuse Prevention

Mission: The mission of the Derek Hatcher Foundation is to raise awareness of substance abuse and addiction. Proceeds go to programs that fight the disease of addiction and protect our youth from substance abuse. We are a 501c3 non-profit organization. Derek Hatcher was an exceptional quarterback at Ridgeview High School in Clay County, Florida from 2005-2009. After the start of a successful college football career, Derek sadly passed away from a drug overdose in his college dorm room on February 21st, 2016. Derek struggled with addiction for three years prior to his death, and during that time he began to share his story with high school football teams, rehabilitation centers and inmates within the juvenile justice system. That One Line highlights Derek sharing his message with others in hopes of saving someone from enduring the nightmare of addiction that he did. In these clips, he explains how “that one line” changed his life forever. Derek's mother, Debbie Rizer, along with several of Derek's friends and family, fight courageously to end the opoid epidemic by sharing Derek's powerful words. The annual QB-5 Flag Football Tournament raised enough money to give back to the community and provide awareness and education about substance abuse an addiction. We also provided scholarships to deserving high school seniors.
