Programs: The agency's goals support the efforts of child welfare systems to successfully implement the spirit of the indian child welfare act (icwa). To that end, the agency is focused on achieving the following overall objectives: (1) strengthening the abilitites of parents/caregivers to safely protect and nuture american indian children; (2) improving family functioning, parenting skills and increasing the well-being of all family members; (3) increasing family self-sufficiency; and (4) strengthening and maintaining american indian children's connections to extended family and kin, tribe, and culture.
