Mission: We are the largest mass transit advocacy group in Greater Philadelphia, working everyday for retained, improved, and expanded mass transit service in Philadelphia, Southeastern Pennsylvania, South Jersey, Delaware, and beyond.
Results: We were able to run a public service announcement (PSA) on SEPTA's new train cars asking "what if there was no money to run your train?". This is the crux of our mass transit funding campaign, which also includes a petition for PA Gov. Tom Corbett to fund all forms of transportation (http://chn.ge/128Pt5H) and will soon include a YouTube video about funding all SEPTA/NJT modes (bus, train, subway, trolley, etc). We have also been able to sell 50 dozen Krispy Kreme donuts to raise money for our mission. The campaign, Krispy Kreme donuts for DVARP, is a yummy way to support mass transit. Finally, we held four public workshops on issues including mass transit funding (a precursor to our campaign), SEPTA's new smartcard, city transit issues (buses, subways, trolleys), and how SEPTA can improve upon its new Regional Rail cars. We had about 20 different people (some professional, others just everyday riders) give their feedback during the meetings. This was a great way for DVARP to hear from our members and supporters.
