Mission: The Mission of the Daniel DiTondo Foundation is to bring educational and artistic opportunities to Washington, DC students. In the spring of 2000, the Daniel DiTondo Foundation was created to honor the life and memory of Daniel DiTondo who passed away from cancer that same year. Daniel not only was an exemplary classroom teacher, but through his diligent dedication and inspiration, provided a model for his students. Prior to his illness,Daniel had successfully combined his hobbyist's passion for art with his dedication for guiding young students. In celebration of Daniel, our goal is to continue his mission by bringing certified art teachers into J.F.Cook Elementary School, providing tuition for students to attend summer art camp and provide scholarship aid for schools of higher learning for J.F.Cook graduates.
Programs: 1. The most exciting initiative by the Daniel DiTondo Foundation from the past school year was the introduction of our "Artist In Residence" program. Through this program, a certified art teacher works with J.F.Cook students, filling a critical instructional need in the school. Two classes of J.F.Cook fifth grade students are currently enjoying in-school art instruction and art related field trips with a talented and dedicated Washington, DC area artist.2.Over the past three summers with funds provided by the Daniel DiTondo Foundation, Students from J.F.Cook School have been sent to a week long summer camp at the Corcoran Gallery and the Capital Children's Museum.3. The foundation has also established a fund to provide scholarship aid to graduates of J.F.Cook.
