Nonprofit Overview
Causes: Environment, Parks & Playgrounds, Recreation & Sports, Sports
Mission: CRYSP DC engages high need communities in the creation of safe, high-quality spaces for sports and recreation. Vision: CRYSP DC will be a community megaphone, advocating for more recreation space throughout the DC metro area with a clear brand, mission and well-funded mandate. We will be a leader that organizes and articulates the community’s need for recreational space.
Results: Operator: The Fields at RFK, a 27-acre outdoor sports complex. Youth Sports For All: Facilitated over 155 scholarships to underserved youth in the DC area. Advocacy: Added a pop-up disc golf course on Oklahoma Ave. lawn
Target demographics: Our Youth Sports For All (YSFA) program gives families who may not easily access such programs the benefits and opportunities of outdoor sports and recreation. Our goal is to remove all barriers—money, internet connectivity, lack of equipment—and ensure that all children have the same opportunities to experience sports and be part of a team.
Geographic areas served: Identifying underused public and private parcels in DC, developing an appropriate program and concept design, evaluating feasibility, and making a business case for conversion.
