Creating Opportunities for Guatemalans is a small but growing nonprofit that helps students get an education who otherwise would not be able to attend school. COFG operates in the small town of San Antonio de Aguas Caliente, outside of Antigua. Students are sponsored in their schools with fees, English language support, and mathematics. The organization also helps local families become self-sufficient by learning how to sew, raise chickens, and grow vegetable gardens. The students and their parents are very committed and grateful to the organization. I am lucky enough to sponsor Emily, and have recently added sponsorship for a second student. During the pandemic, jobs have been scarce, so COFG has provided food to many of their families.
