Causes: Food, Soup Kitchens
Mission: Realizing that people can be impoverished physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, socially and financially, the covenant soup kitchen provides food and access to basic services in an environment of care, love, support and safety to those individuals and families from the greater windham community who come through our doors. We rely on the generosity of the community and its faith to help us carry out this mission.
Programs: To provide food and other services to needy individuals and families in the greater willimantic community. The total meals provided for the year were approximately 151,029. The emergency food pantry was open 255 days serving 8,420 patrons and providing 75,780 meals. There were 4,894 bag lunches provided during the year. There were a total of 3,155 meals served for the friday evening meal. A total of 11,070 supplemental meals were also served. The kitchen was open for 53 friday evenings. There were 36,509 breakfast meals served to clients (an increase of $22,132 from the prior year) and 30,691 lunch meals served. The kitchen was open 319 days for breakfast and 309 days for lunch. Approximately 223,033 pounds of food and materials were donated. There were 6,840 volunteers who provided 18,083 hours of volunteer service.
