Having been a board member for Council on Aging for several years, I've seen firsthand what an integral role the organization plays as an advocate and protector of senior citizens. The staff has a genuine concern for the constituents, going way outside what is considered "their job." A few of COA's crucial programs include operating an adult day center, The Retreat, that offers respite to caregivers of elderly family members; the Foster Grandparent Program which matches senior mentors to children; and Meals on Wheels, a program that gives in-home meal assistance. Without Council on Aging, I believe that many senior citizens would simply fall through the cracks, and I would hold the organization up as a model program to other communities.
