Causes: Child Abuse Prevention, Crime & Law, Domestic Violence
Mission: To educate and strengthen the community to reduce child abuse and neglect. Cpcan strives to prevent the maltreatment of children before it happens through advocacy, collaborative efforts, and by offering programs to the community including: a. Stewards of children - child sexual abuse prevention training for adults b. Mandated reporter trainings - teaching how to recognize and report suspected maltreatment of children c. Annual trainings for professionals d. Truancy prevention programs in conjunction with the jackson family court e. Safe sleep - to protect infants from sleep related death f. Period of purple crying - to protect infants from shaken baby syndrome g. Community education - offer presentations and child safety and parent educational information to the jackson community
Programs: Provide educational services - including: stewards of children (trainings educated 140 adults in child sexual abuse prevention. It is estimated that each trained adult protects 10 children, meaning that these trainings will protect 1,400 children); mandated reporter training (presentations resulted in 300+ adults trained in recognizing and reporting suspected child maltreatment to child protective services); annual professional trainings for social workers, teachers, and other professionals (trained 150 professionals in recognizing child abuse and neglect at 5 workshops); strong nurturing fathers program provided education to improve the parenting skills of fathers. This new program served over 100 fathers, providing them with methods to strengthen their relationship with their children and provide a strong role model; period of purple crying(2 presentations served 100 new parents and caregivers to prevent shaken baby syndrome); how to deescalate child abusive situations in public places - gave 2 presentations to assist people who work with the public on how to help families in distress, training 40 people; and informations fairs and community events (distributed 3,500 child safety and parent educational materials at community events, reaching over 2,500 participants).
provide truancy prevention programs to develop strategies for reducing attendance problems of eligible children. This includes performing educational neglect assessments in collaboration with the jackson family court to help families struggling with truancy. Assessments assisted approximately 50 adults and 100 children during the year.
