student success programs: we supported an enriching education for all students, even those who were economically disadvantaged. Through our student opportunity for success program (which was created to eliminate barriers to full participation in school for low-income students), we provided $15,817 for financially needy students (benefitting 2,200 students) with art supplies, graphing calculators, take-home books for elementary school students, and non-standard school items such as backpacks and clothing, emergency health and hygiene supplies, snacks, field trip and extracurricular activity fees, and test fees for sat and ap exams. Through our scholarship programs, we awarded scholarships totaling $3,000 to help 5 high school seniors pursue their post-secondary education. We also provided $36,623 of grants through our intervention programs (benefitting 500 students) that provided summer and school-year academic support to mostly middle school and high school students who are at risk of not graduating from high school. The summer program served 243 students, at the elementary, middle and high school levels, who attended enhancement courses in math, reading, writing, and study skills, and some students had the opportunity to visit colleges. The majority (64%) of the summer students participated in the credit recovery program. The kinder launch program provided three weeks of preliminary kindergarten classes during the summer for incoming kindergartners who had not yet been exposed to preschool. Another intervention program is the summer advancement via individual determination (avid) boot camp (a college readiness program) for incoming high school freshmen which helps students build relationships with high school teachers and build their confidence. The school-year intervention programs included the juntos program, which helps latino families navigate the college application process; the rock star mentoring program, which provides rewards, positive reinforcement, and tutoring for high school freshmen and sophomores at risk of failing required classes; and the school-year avid program that provides elective classes and college field trips to high school students to help them succeed in high school, college and careers, especially students historically underrepresented in higher education.
teacher support programs: we awarded 30 learning enrichment grants to schools (benefiting 1,500 students) which provided $22,433 for teachers' projects that enriched and enhanced the educational experience for students in the areas of art, bike education, engineering, nutrition, foreign language, job fair training, knitting, mathematics, music, reading, science, stem for girls, technology, urban farming, and creek water monitoring.
