Mission: The consortium for research on renewable industrial materials (corrim) mission seeks to establish, support and manage research, and education programs related to the production, use, and final disposal of wood products.
Programs: Composite panel association - cpa: the work was funded to develop a life cycle assessment report and environmental product declarations (epd) for production of hardboard and engineered wood siding in trim produced in north america. A report on the environmental impact of cellulosic fiberboard will be generated, certified, and verified and epd submitted to the composite panel association.
wood life cycle assessment - lca: corrim will complete cradle to gate life cycle assessments for northeast/northcentral and inland northwest softwood lumber production and northeast/northcentral hardwood lumber production; upload current lca data to the uslci database and manage transitions in the publicly available lca data; and develop a framework for assessing the carbon impacts of forest operations at the landscape scale.
miscellaneous grants received for wood research and education.
department of energy - doe: the overall goal of this work is to provide th doe with high-quality informaiton that allows for a detailed, comprehensive analysis of the benefits and liabilities of using woody feed stocks for production of biofuels on a regionally specific basis. Corrim will produce woody-biomass collection scenarios from the pacific northwest, southeast, and northeast united states for use as feedstocks for liquid biofuels. Additionally, different wood mill residue pathways will be determined for use in pulp and paper, long term wood products, site-production energy, and liquid biofuels and which pathway is best to reduce carbon impacts.
