Mission: Cornerstones of science works with public libraries to create science programs that spark curiosity and foster a deeper understanding of the world around us.
Programs: Empowering libraries to be science resource centers for their communities: a guide for state agencies cornerstones is co-pi on an awarded institute of museum and library service federal grant (lg-80-15-0041-15) entitled empowering libraries to be science resource centers for their communities: a guide for state agencies designed to empower public libraries to become science resource centers for their communities through leveraging existing state and national training, programs, resources and research. In addition the creation of a virtual, online stem resources clearinghouse that is easily maintained and accessible to all libraries will also be developed for librarians to have easy ongoing access to high quality reputable stem activities they can use in their institutions. The audience, for this project has been identified as state library agencies, public libraries and members of the communities the libraries serve.
library telescope program - the star (sharing telescopes and astronomy resources) program is designed to foster curiosity and deepen interest in astronomy and the night skies by providing quality telescopes and hands-on training to public libraries for use in science programs and for lending to patrons. The star program, one of cornerstones loanable scientific tools initiatives, provides ongoing opportunities for the public to make first-hand scientific observations. The program was initiated in 2012 and is now in over 150 public libraries around the united states.
