Mission: The Sisters of the Holy Names are a group of religious women, consecrated to God, who work toward the full development of the human person. They have a special concern for the poor and marginal of our society, especially women and children. The 207 women of the Oregon Province are currently involved in more than 50 ministries throughout the Northwest including works of education, social service, health care, pastoral ministry, spiritual growth, justice and peace advocacy and in global missions throughout the world. They have been involved in a 10- year land development process on their land at Marylhurst, Oregon, developing a Continuing Care Retirement Community. They are currently in the planning process for a Heritage Center to document the history of the faith groups that have founded the Northwest. The Sisters came from Montreal to Oregon in 1859, the year that Oregon became a State. Their story is the story of the people of Oregon, their history, their education and their growth.
