Mission: Every day we serve people from teens to seniors, facing daily life-challenges. Every day we serve people from teens to seniors, facing daily life-challenges. Through 24-hour free confidential listening, comfort and a connection to resources, education, and emergency assistance, we give people the ability to take back control of their lives.
Results: Operating since 1967, CONTACT has touched and saved countless lives each year, both through our crisis help line and through our teen outreach program. Our volunteers are the heart of the agency, providing listening comfort, support, and compassion to individuals facing daily life challenges. In 2009, CONTACT Crisis Line served the community in the following ways: • Responded to more than 41,900 calls. • Received more than 2,300 emergency aid requests for transportation to remove individuals from life-threatening situations, DART passes for important transportation needs, and assistance paying for prescriptions. • Granted 590 taxi rides, transporting approximately 850 battered women and children, stranded adults, and runaway children to Metroplex agencies and hospitals. • Answered and processed 1,603 suicide calls. • Processed 5,853 calls regarding mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety. • Provided callers with more than 15,500 referrals to various Metroplex resources. • Responded to more than 1,200 calls concerning sexual assault. • Assisted 3,946 callers with issues related to financial hardship, basic needs and/or employment issues.
Target demographics: Greater Dallas area crisis prevention and intervention services from teens to seniors.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Annually, we answer more than 40,000 crisis help line calls and offer outreach and education to more than 7,000 teens.
Programs: Crisis Help Line Program, including one of only 11 Spanish Crisis Lines in the country and our Emergency Aid Assistance, which offers prescription assistance and bus passes. The Teen CONTACT Program.
