Connected in Hope is a unique non-profit, social enterprise working to empower women and families in Ethiopia. The organization works to provide alternative sources of income for women who were once fuel wood carriers. The women weave beautiful scarves and baskets which are then brought to the global markets through the online store, trunk shows and retail partners. Once the scarves sell 100% of the profit is re-invested in programs that benefit the women and their families. For example, Connected in Hope fully funds a preschool that serves the children/grandchildren of the weavers and children from the surrounding neighborhood. In addition, the organization also funds capacity building programs for the women (business, leadership development, literacy programs) and provides scholarships to two young men in medical school in Addis Ababa.
