Homeless Shelters
Mission: Our mission is to end homelessness on the Eastside by helping men make the transition from life on the street to stable, independent living. CFH provides temporary shelter, food, and case management services to men experiencing homelessness. CFH also helps residents relocate from temporary shelter programs into permanent housing.
Target demographics: Men experiencing homelessness
Direct beneficiaries per year: over 1,200 people in all our programs.
Geographic areas served: East King County
Programs: Our programs include:
- Outreach: our Outreach worker goes out into the community where people experiencing homelessness congregate and camp. The Outreach worker provides a personal connection between the people who need help and the resources available. This is frequently our first contact with the chronic homeless and provides a way to begin to connect them with our services.
- The Day Center provides the first place ever in East King County for men who are without showers, laundry, case management, clothing, bus tickets, and hygiene products to access these services during the day all in one place.
- The Eastside Winter Shelter (EWS) operates from 7:00 pm until 7:00 am every day it is open (Nov to Apr). We provide a safe warm place to sleep, three meals a day, storage for belongings, case management, medical and dental services, job assistance, training to prepare for housing, bus passes, showers, laundry facilities, and haircuts.
- Year-Round-Shelter: This innovative program leverages community support with our professional Case Managers. Each month, the 35 men in the shelter stays at one of our supporting congregations. Members of the Host congregation (or a Support congregation) provide a hot, nutritious meal each evening, as well as bringing supplies for breakfast and lunch. In 2017, this shelter had a 70% success rate in placing participants in permanent housing.
- Subsidized Housing Program: Our subsidized housing program provides permanent housing with time-limited subsidies to our shelter residents. Subsidized housing provides men with stability, a personal locked room or apartment, and a safe place to work toward independence. We continue to provide case management and life coaching for our housing clients. We offer both apartments and shared rooms in managed houses. Rents are set at 30% of a man's gross income.
