Mission: We target the millions of Americans who are a paycheck or social security check away from banktuptcy. Our mission is to transform poverty alleviation in the U.S. by providing help now, through our micro loans, and for the future, by helping borrowers build positive banking relations, credit and money management skills. We act on three basic principles. We Act Locally ? by partnering with local community based organizations, banks and credit unions, we use the loans to help people build bridges to the local community and economy. We Reward Responsibility ? by reporting positive loan repayment to a national credit building agency and by working with banks to recognize and incentivize our borrowers, we reward good practices. We Build Sustainability ? by offering education and training through our local partners and by integrating borrowers into the local financial system, we help put people on the road to long term stability.
Programs: We provide no-interest, no-late fee loans of up to $500. By providing small loans and training, we help people through a short-term crisis - before it spirals out of control - and help to develop a positive working relationship with a local lending institution, such as a bank or credit union. We work through local non-profits and banks to nominate, screen and manage borrowers. Our repayment rate is about 90% and, upon repayment, the borrower builds their credit history and a positive relatonship with the supporting bank or credit union. We also provide money management training.
