Mission: Community autism resources is a family created and oriented community services organization providing autism counseling and education for those with autism spectrum disorder, their families and care givers.
Programs: A. Outreach and family support - organization maintains the belief that it exists in service to individuals with autism spectrum disorders and their families. Promotes the acceptance and appreciation of the indivdual skills and gifts individuals with asd possess and have taken up the challenge with families and porfessionals, to actualize these ideals. For the family - individualized family support - includes 1. Initial intake to define what the individual or family needs; 2. Library resources; 3. Website detailing agency activities; 4. Weekly email messages; 5. Facilitaion of and assistance to local parent support groups; 6. Grandparents luncheon; 7. Monthly family activities b. Clinicsindividualized consultations offering specific recommendations. In the following areas education, understanding, social skills, transition planning and visual systems. New this year - monthly ipad clinicsc. Educational workshops - designed to teach skills needed to learn.
symposium and parent retreat:symposium - the organization sponsors an annual autism symposium to provide a forum for education and support for individuals with autism spectrum disorder, their familes and professsionals. The symposium serves as a fundraiser for our annual parent retreat. Parent retreat - whispering pines conference center: university of rhode island campus with parent participants. The primary purpose of the retreat is to provide a relaxing and supportive environment for parents to reflect on, explore and share the rewards and challenges of raising a child with asd. Another purpose is to provide a brief getawya fro parents to relax and enjoy.
our gottschall access program (gap) offers adults on the autism spectrum a unique opportunity to enhance their life, vocational and social skills which will enable them to participate in internships, and then eventually the pursuit of gainful employment. This program takes place at bristol community college. Students enroll in a 3-year program of specially designed courses and have full student access on the college campus.
