Communitopia is a small nonprofit making a huge difference in students' lives! My organization, Green Building Alliance, partners with Communitopia on various youth and educator sustainability initiatives including the Woodland Hills Youth Climate Action Summit in October 2020. Communtiopia is deeply committed to giving students agency and decision-making power in all their programs. During the summit, the staff embodied this value by allowing students to create the schedule, design the logo, choose and invite speakers, emcee the event, and model the leadership needed to control our climate! I'm a believer in their work and glad to be a new member of their board. :)
Communitopia is a wonderful organization with a team of hard working staffers and board members who are committed to serving their communities and growing the organization. Their programming is expanding and evolving, and there is a great deal of excitement surrounding their current climate action and climate education initiatives. I have had the privilege of working alongside the team as they carry out this meaningful work, and I am continually inspired and motivated by their enthusiasm.
I have had the pleasure of not only serving on the board of this amazing organization, but also working directly with them prior to serving on the board through my day job on a great community event called FutureFest. Communitopia's goal to educate all on the importance of taking action to prevent climate change is no small feat - but they continue to press ahead and make headway in the Southwester PA Region.
