Causes: Education, Literacy, Remedial Reading & Encouragement
Mission: Cufc mission is to support the efforts of whitmer human resources center (whrc) so that the children can become literate, independent learners with enhanced options for their future - improve children's literacy and meet emergency needs of the children to enable them to learn.
Programs: Approximately forty three volunteer tutors provided reading readiness skills and worked with over eighty children in 14 classrooms who need an extra boost to learn to read. School supplies is also provided to 800 students to support the learning process. Approximately 4,000 books were given to 800 students. Operated a clothes closet for children including school uniforms, warm jackets. Hats, mittens/gloves. Other emergency services include gift certificates for new shoes and holiday food gift baskets and toys for christmas and thanksgiving. Approximately 5 office workers collected and distributed approximately $75,000 in clothing and food to whrc children and families.
