Mission: Common Coast Research & Conservation, founded in 2005, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to increase the understanding of loon ecology and facilitate protection of breeding habitat for loons in Michigan, where the species is State Threatened. CCRC staff and volunteers conduct long-term monitoring of breeding populations, research threats to loons such as mercury toxicity and botulism poisoning, initiate protection of critical loon habitat through conservation easements, and educate the public about stewardship of the coast that we share with loons and other wildlife.
