Causes: Crime & Law, Domestic Violence, Spouse Abuse Prevention
Mission: To provide safety and support to victims of domestic violence and sexual violence through education, advocacy and shelter.
Programs: The emergency shelter served 106 women and 111 children of domestic and sexual violence. The shelter serves women and children who have been victims of domestic violence or sexual assault and are in need of a safe place for themselves or their famillies. These services require over 50% of the agency's financial and personnel resources. Services provided by the shelter include 24-hour crisis line, ongoing case management and goal planning with residents, help with housing search and placement, and group programming. Some of those programs include self-awareness and mindfulness practices, understanding how trauma impacts coping skills and self-regulation, parenting skills, utilizing art to process and heal, dynamics of domestic and sexual violence, budgeting, housing and tenant rights, yoga, effective communication, boundaries, various health related topics and self-care. The shelter also has a strong children's program which provides support to children residing in shelter. This is done through children's support groups, parenting skills group, child care, family activities, and a focus on rebuilding relationships between parents and children that may have been influenced by violence in the home.
the watonwan county domestic violence and sexual assault program provides advocacy, criminal and civil justice intervention, crisis response, prevention, and community education for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Services were provided to 60 women, 9 men, 15 children, and 23 secondary survivors of domestic violence. Services were also provided to 4 women, 27 children, and 36 secondary survivors of sexual violence.
the blue earth county domestic violence and sexual assault programs provide advocacy, criminal and civial justice intervention, crisis response, prevention, community education, and support groups for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Services were provided to 703 women, 29 men, 3 transgender clients, 96 children, and 66 secondary survivors of domestic violence. Services were also provided to 111 women, 4 men, 3 transgender clients, 31 children, and 24 secondary survivors of sexual violence. A big focus for blue earth county program has been on the blueprint for safety, an initiative that aims to increase collaboration between law enforcement, prosecution, and other criminal justice partners so that victims of domestic violence are safe and offenders are held accountable.
