Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals
Mission: To promote and provide humane treatment of animals and prevent their suffering from neglect or abuse
Programs: Cchs provides routine vet care for dogs and cats in foster care as well as vet care for pets of low income families in case of severe illness or injury. About 150 animals pass through our foster care system each year and we help about 250 families with emergency type care for their pets. Foster care also involves cost of equipment such as litter, leashes, crates, etc.
cchs has an ongoing program of spay/neuter for pets of low income families, whose income is under $35,000. A small copay is required to the vet office ($20 for cats, $35 for dogs) in most cases, with cchs paying the remainder of the bill. We work with area vets who offer us reduced rates. About 600 animals were spayed or neutered this last fiscal year.
cchs offers pet food assistance to low income families on an emergency basis. About 150 families are helped each year. Food is also provided to our fosters.
