Causes: Children & Youth, Youth Development Programs
Mission: The mission of the coatesville youth initiative is to contribute to a vibrant future for coatesville by engaging youth in experiences that support their success in school and in life, and by uniting a wide range of partners to make the community better for everyone.
Programs: Youth developmentcyi provides opportunities and support for youth to engage in educational, economic, character building, and service experiences. Youth development programs include servicecorps, which is designed to build life, leadership and work-readiness skills, encourage meaningful service and promote civic engagement among 8th to 12th grade students; and trek, which is an environmental awareness and leadership development program for students in 4th to 6th grade to camp, hike and canoe along the brandywine river. These programs are funded by foundations and individual donors.
prevention cyi fosters collaboration among community residents, youth, area businesses, nonprofit and county agencies, youth-serving organizations, the coatesville area school district and other educational entities to prevent and reduce substance abuse by educating, motivating and changing the perceptions, attitudes and choices youth and young adults make regarding alcohol, tobacco and marijuana. The prevention programs include communities that care, which is funded through the chester county department of drug and alcohol services, & drug free communities and stop act programs, which is federally funded through the white house office of national drug control policy and administered through the substance administration mental health services administration.
family supportcyi provides programs and initiatives designed to strengthen the family unit, reduce stress, enhance family functioning, and build healthy relationships. Our mediation initiative and parent cafe program provide structured meals and fun activities, offer parent peer support, and one-on-one support for families expressing concern about a youth issue.
