Mission: The mission of coalition of hispanic women against cancer is to increase cancer awareness through education and access to services among the underserved in the community.
Programs: The organization attended 13 community and church events to provide breast cancer prevention information, reaching over 1,400 latinos. The lay health educators identified and educated an additional 47 latina women in the community on breast cancer and cervical cancer, mammograms and pap smear educational information, and community resources. During the second year of the pap smear mobiles program, a total of 197 women were screened. The support group for spanish speaking women that are cancer survivors included 13 participants. In 2014, the mobile mammography increased to two mobiles and screened 40 women. A partnership was created with early detection works (edw) program, who trained chwac's staff, to help them with spanish phone calls and get spanish speaking clients registered into the edw's system; chwac contacted 697 women that resulted in 408 women being enrolled in edw to have a clinical breast exam and mammogram screening. We referred 27 women to st. Luke's hospital and 3 women to show me healthy women.
