During fiscal year 2017 (july 1, 2016 to june 30, 2017), the university launched several new partnership initiatives and programs aimed at meeting the pressing needs of its regions and the wider world. Here are a few highlights. The seattle campus welcomed the first cohort of students for a new graduate program, designed for master's level counselors who want to take their careers to the next level by gaining a phd. The phd ces offers cognate areas in either counselor education and supervision or creative arts therapy counselor education and supervision. In addition to providing a creative arts therapy cognate which supports participation from aus creative arts therapy master's graduates, this program will also support the aus social justice mission by encouraging students to develop a multicultural counselor identity and an appreciation for diversity, while also requiring core coursework in social justice and advocacy. New england's clinical mental health counseling program (cmhc) was among the nine programs nationally awarded the behavioral health workforce education and training (bhwet) grant through the u. S. Department of health and human services hrsa division. The cmhc program will provide addictions counseling training and supervised clinical experience to twenty master's degree students completing their internships at sites within the monadnock region. In addition, the initiative will devote resources toward addressing the training needs of the current workforce by concurrently providing the curriculum to local clinicians and clinical supervisors. Antioch university midwest (aum) announced 3+1 initiatives with several community colleges in the miami valley, ohio region. The 3+1 pathways honor aum's mission to make a bachelor's degree affordable and accessible. The pathways have been designed working side by side with community college faculty with input from advisors and students to best align associate's programs with degree completion at the bachelor's level. Santa barbara's existing master of arts in clinical psychology program added a concentration in somatic psychotherapy to meet the growing demand for specialization in this cutting edge field. Now considered crucial in the treatment of trauma, ptsd, depression, anxiety, and more, somatic psychotherapy combines traditional treatment with bodily awareness and the interconnection of the body, emotions, identity, and cognition. The los angeles campus added a concentration and certificate in applied spatial analysis for geographic information systems (gis) as part of the urban sustainability master's degree. This concentration and certificate in applied spatial analysis for geographic information systems (gis), meets the demand for qualified gis professionals in various fields ranging from conservation and environmental sciences, business administration, clinical psychology, sustainability, to advocacy and social justice, epidemiology, and education. The graduate school of leadership and change was well represented at the international leadership conference in atlanta in fall 2016. Au gslc was represented well by current students and alumni in 16 presentations ranging from cultivating inclusive leadership and leading social justice to gender inclusivity in higher education leadership.
