Causes: Environment
Mission: The mission of coal river mtn. Watch is to stop the destruction of our communities and environment by mountain top removal mining, to improve the quality of life in our area and to help rebuild sustainable communities.
Programs: Appalachian community health emergency project to monitor, publicize, and educate about the health impacts related to mountaintop removal, and to work for public health protection
road show/storytelling project to host visiting groups and service projects, provide area tours to visiting reporters and groups, recruit and train volunteers and activists, go on speaking trips, and otherwise publicize mountaintop removal and related issues.
citizens' enforcement program to monitor, document, and resolve pollution violations and lax enforcement; to resist mountaintop removal permits; and to train and assist citizens with complaints. 2014 included disaster assistance delivering water, food, and supplies to those affected by the january chemical spill.
tadpole project to clean up the trash and junk from the marsh fork and its tributaries and hollows; to monitor streams; and to restore community outdoor recreation areas sustainable energy and economic diversification (seed) project-to promote energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, and economic diversification opportunities. 2014 focus was on a conservation easement project and the community garden.
