Causes: Environment
Mission: Cllc is a connector organization. We help connect people so they can determine how to address environmental issues at the scale nature functions. The habitat requirements of both animals and plants and the ecological functions that sustain nature are far larger than the largest national park. Think of us as community organizers for the environment, connecting disparate stakeholder groups that reside in large landscapes and who need to work together to address environmental impacts larger than their jurisdictions or land tenure domains.
Programs: Building communitiescllc connects people to connect landscapes so that wildlife, natural systems and human societies can thrive. As part of our work thus far, we have established nine nested organizational networks that engage in large scale conservation action. These networks focus on corridors and connectivity in response to climate change and human impacts on the environment. The networks span geographies and cultures from the local reaches of our base in montana, across the western united states, across north america and, in the past three years, across the globe. See schedule o for more.
advocating policyduring the past year cllc has renewed our efforts to advance connectivity and wildlife corridor policy at the local, state and international levels, given their roles as incubators of new policy when federal support is lacking and we continue to be a leading organization in this field. We have made great strides during the past year working to create wildlife corridor friendly policies that are transformed into landscape protection in places identified by science as critical linkage areas. See schedule o for more.
advancing scienceour decision-support science requires synthesizing information across many disciplines of knowledge and translating it so that policy makers and managers can understand it the context of their work. We are working to create wildlife corridor and connectivity analyses for national forest plan revisions. During the past year, we have created and presented a resource management tool used for prioritizing management actions that optimize joint benefits to terrestrial and freshwater targets.
