Mission: As a catholic health care organization, our mission at mercy medical center is to continue christ's healing ministry by providing quality, compassionate, accessible and affordable care for the whole person.
Programs: Refer to schedule o program service accomplishments: opened mercy health center of massillon in august and not only met, but exceeded projections. After one year of operation the joint venture with alternate health solutions, mercy homecare and hospice showed not only growth, but also improvements in quality initiatives and ratings. The emergency department experienced an all-time high volume of 72,013 patients. This exceeded the projected target of 68,000. These volumes would not be possible without the emergency department expansion and remodeling. Mobile mri, ct, and 3d mammography are now offered at our offsite locations in alliance, louisville, carrollton, new philadelphia and massillon. Our radiology services showed growth for the third straight year, including 1,516 more ct scans over prior year; 2,000 additional diagnostic x-rays; 115 more nuclear medicine scans; and an additional 207 interventional radiology procedures. We continue to measure our productivity, and in 2016 began use of the truven health analytics action oi benchmarks. We are currently in the top 28% of our peer group facilities nationally for the third straight year, mercy received a payout from participation in the new health collaborative (nhc) accountable care organization (aco) for the medicare shared savings program. We were able to pass that along to our participating physicians. We continue to market nhc aco to our mercy medical staff physicians. As we concluded year two of the orthopedic co-management project, we met 14 of 15 key indicators. Our orthopedic surgeons continued to be engaged in this initiative, which will help us prepare for the upcoming cms bundled payments for care improvement (bpci), which are based on quality of services and more coordinated care planned for the start of the 5b construction, which will mark phase i of our facility transformation project, an initiative to provide additional, much needed private rooms for our patients. Started plans for the mercy wound care & hyperbaric center, working with restorix health to manage our wound care services, stronger and continue to care for our patients. Awards and achievements mercy received its 8th consecutive energy star certification for superior energy management practices, placing the hospital among the top in the nation to earn this designation. Mercy heart center received full heart failure reaccreditation status from the society of cardiovascular patient care (scpc) in 2016. Hospitals that receive scpc's hf accreditation status employ an evidence-based, protocol-driven and systematic approach to patient management. Mercy's blood bank was inspected by the fda during a routine unannounced inspection. No deficiencies were noted. The american association of cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation (aacvpr) again certified mercy cardiac rehabilitation and mercy pulmonary rehabilitation. In 2007, mercy was the first in stark county to earn the aacvpr certification. Mercy medical center received accreditation for its postgraduate year one (pgy1) pharmacy residency program from the american society of healthy-systems pharmacists (ashp) commission on credentialing. Mercy pathology and laboratory medicine received cap 15189 reaccreditation from the college of american pathologists. Mercy was the first hospital in northeast ohio to achieve cap 15189 accreditation in 2011. Mercy medical center received the 2016 mission: lifeline receiving center gold plus recognition award. Mercy medical center received the american heart association/american stroke association's get with the guidelines-stroke gold plus quality achievement award with target: stroke honor roll. Blue cross and blue shield (bcbs) recently designated mercy as a blue distinction center for maternity care, hip and knee replacement, and spine surgery. Mercy medical center's emergency chest pain center (ecpc) received full, three-year cycle v accreditation with pci (percutaneous coronary interventions), or angioplasty, from the society of chest pain centers. Mercy ecpc was home to the nation's first accredited chest pain center and first fully functioning cardiac catheterization lab in an emergency department. The ohio department of health (odh) and the healthy ohio business council (hobc) recognized mercy medical center as one of 68 ohio employers for healthy worksite practices during their 12th annual healthy ohio healthy worksite awards ceremony. Mercy was one of just 12 ohio employers to earn the healthy worksite gold level award in the large business category. Mercy medical center was recognized as a gold level fit-friendly worksite by the american heart association, as well as the healthy ohio healthy worksite gold award from the ohio department of health (odh) and the healthy ohio business council. Medical center received the carroll county chamber of commerce golden shovel award for our carrollton facilities renovation project. This project was generously funded in part by an omega grant that helped to offset direct costs of the $375,000 construction/renovation. Mercy haven received the founding mothers award from domestic violence project inc. (dvp) during the organization's annual hearts with hope fundraiser. Mercy was honored for being the first in ohio to offer immediate response for domestic violence in the emergency department in partnership with dvpi.
