Mission: To recruit, train, and coordinate community volunteers to mentor clarke county school district children to make a positive difference in the childrens' lives. Mentors visit their mentee at school once each week for a shared activity such as lunch, playground time, and help with homework. Mentors make a one year commitment.
Programs: During this fiscal year, 340 new mentors were trained and 597 mentors visited their mentees. Over 7,702 mentor/mentee visits took place. 27 mentors completed the extra screening process to become community mentors. 11 mentor training sessions were held along with 17 presentations about ccmp were given to community groups. 240 people attended ccmp's fundraising breakfast. Mentored students have better school attendance, fewer behavioral problems, better attitudes toward school ,and a better likelihood of going on to higher education than do comparable non-mentored students.
