Direct beneficiaries per year: • 30 people were placed in jobs, including 6 through our unique On the Job Training program. • 18 low-income property owners in City Heights received major structural, mechanical and health & safety improvements for their homes. • 5 City Heights residents were trained as civic engagement popular educators. • The I-15 CenterLine Bus Rapid Transit route launched after decades of advocacy and transports 4,000 riders a day; 25% of which get off or on in City Heights.
Geographic areas served: the community of City Heights in San Diego
Programs: CHCDC owns and operates 366 units of quality affordable rental housing at 13 different locations. Since 1992, older housing has been rehabilitated and partnerships created to develop and operate new quality housing. The housing program is complemented by a Resident Self Sufficiency program providing study and computer centers, access to affordable food and living essentials, job and financial counseling and supporting resident and youth councils to involve residents in the improvement of their lives and their neighborhoods.
