Mission: Through case advocacy services and individual volunteer advocates, the Citizen Advocacy Program ensures that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities have equal access to the supports and services which help them to be independent and integrated members of their community.
Results: We have offices in all three counties, each of which are staffed by a social worker. Our staff also inclues a part-time volunteer services coordinator. Social workers provided services to consumers that included acting as liaison with government agencies, and medical, legal and education professionals as well as budgeting, nutritional and housing assistance. Volunteer mentors assisted consumers with computer skills, reading skills, budgeting, nutrition and exercise, as well as providing opportunities for community integration and socialization. Volunteers also assisted staff in collecting items for a Holiday Gift Drive.
Target demographics: Individuals with the developmental disabilities of intellectual disability, cerebral palsy and/or epilepsy, who live in the communities of Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties in the state of New Jersey.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Last year we served over 100 consumers in the tri-county region, and 27 of our consumers were matched with a volunteer advocate.
